Day 5

30 Day Challenge - Day 5

Hyssop

“Purify my conscience! Make this leper clean again! Wash me in your love until I am pure in heart.”

Psalms 51:7 The Passion Translation

This chapter was written when David was at one of his lowest points in life. Instead of wallowing in his failure and seeking self punishment, he let Holy Spirit draw him back to his true identity as a worshipper.

Like David, we often need to respond to Holy Spirit with a heart posture of repentance, allowing Him to heal and refresh us.

“Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.”

Psalms 51:7 New King James

Hyssop was used to sprinkle the blood of a sacrifice on a healed leper to ceremonially cleanse him for worship.

Hyssop was also used to apply the blood of lambs to Israelite doorposts on the night of the original Passover. The blood was a sign that a death had already occurred in the home and the firstborn of that family would live.

By receiving communion we are declaring we have been made clean and pure of heart. We are also applying the blood of Jesus over our lives and homes.
