Day 30

30 Day Challenge - Day 30

The Rope of Rahab

Joshua 2:21 NKJV

“Then she said, “According to your words, so be it.” And she sent them away, and they departed. And she bound the scarlet cord in the window.”

Rahab is the name of the woman in this verse. She represents any or all of us, humanity. The life she was living was not what she wanted. There was likely blame to place and blame to take.

On this day, she found her faith and courage. Some men from Israel had come to spy out the city of Jericho and knocked on Rahab’s door for help. She had heard of the God they served and His great power. In this moment Rahab made a decision to believe in The God of Abraham. She hid the spies and helped them escape.

From that day until the army of Israel returned to destroy Jericho, a scarlet rope hung on the exterior of Rahab’s house. That decision changed the DNA of her family.

The Bridegroom, in Song of Songs 4:3 says “Your lips are as lovely as Rahab’s scarlet ribbon, speaking mercy, speaking grace.”

That scarlet ribbon or rope signified to the army of Israel that this is the home of Rahab and she and her household were to be spared in the takeover of that city.

That scarlet ribbon is representative of the blood of Jesus. The description of His mercy and grace. The beauty of His sacrifice for us.

Amazing, just like in the story of when Moses and the children of Israel put the blood on their doorpost, the scarlet rope signified “covered by the covenant”. It said “Pass over this one and her household”.

When we post the blood on our doorpost, when we let the scarlet rope down, we are saying this is a household that is set apart. Because of Rahab’s faith, God did not just grant her request, He also granted her an amazing legacy. Through her lineage came our savior!

You may not be where you want to be right now, but God has a great plan for you! He sees you for who you were created to be! He has great plans for you and your household! ‬

As we receive communion we are acknowledging His mark on us. We are putting the blood on our lives to warn the enemy not to touch Gods children.
