Day 25

30 Day Challenge - Day 25

Remembrance

1 Corinthians 11:23-25 The Passion Translation

“I have handed down to you what came to me by direct revelation from the Lord himself. The same night in which he was handed over, he took bread

and gave thanks. Then he distributed it to the disciples and said, “Take it and eat your fill. It is my body, which is given for you.

Do this to remember me.”

He did the same with the cup of wine after supper and said, “This cup seals the new covenant with my blood.

Drink it—and whenever you drink this, do it to remember me.”

The King James Version reads “do this in remembrance of me.”

To say we are not “remembering” something does not mean we forgot it happened. It means we are not living with the awareness of it. We stop intentionally living with the wonder or pain of it.

In the case of remembering Jesus’ extreme sacrifice made for us it may mean we are not intentionally making a draw on its power.

Over the place my mom is buried there is a large granite bench. It shows the world who she was. That bench is our memorial to her.

Looking at my mom’s memorial, I am flooded with emotion and memories. I immediately want to talk to her.

The empty cross is our memorial to our savior. Receiving communion is our remembrance.

When we see the empty cross we are not just remembering Jesus’ brutal death and victorious resurrection. We are also remembering the forgiveness, the covenant, the healing and the unity we have with other believers because of His death and resurrection.

You may immediately feel the desire to talk with Him.

When you receive communion today, you are proclaiming Jesus’ death and resurrection. You are making a draw on the power of being covered by His blood. You are aligning your heart with the reality and wonder of our gift of salvation.
